TEHRAN (IQNA) – A number of Bahraini opposition groups reiterated their support for the cause of Palestine and their rejection of the Trump administration’s so-called deal of the century plan, a few days before a US-led conference planned in the Bahraini capital, Manama.

Bahraini Opposition Groups Underline Support for Palestine ahead of Manama Conference

In statement read out in a press conference in Tehran on Sunday, representatives of the Bahraini groups, including the Shia Scholars Council of Bahrain, Al-Wafa Islamic Movement, Islamic Action Society (also referred to as Amal Party) and Freedom and Democracy Movement, condemned attempts by some Arab countries at normalizing ties with the Zionist regime.

They said the Bahraini regime’s move to host a conference to sell what is called “the deal of the century” does not represent the will of the Bahraini people who support Palestine.

“The Bahraini nation believes that the issue of Palestine and holy Quds are the main issue of the Muslim Ummah … and that not an iota of the Palestinian soil is for sale,” the statement read.

It added that by hosting such a conference, the Manama regime seeks to buy political support from the West, especially the US.

The Bahraini groups hailed the countries that have boycotted the Manama conference and stressed the need for resistance against Israel and its supporters until the full liberation all Palestinian lands.

The statement comes as the White House unveiled the economic component of its plan for the Middle East as the Trump administration continues attempts to buy its way to clinching the “Deal of Century.”

Released Saturday, the so-called Peace to Prosperity involves $25 billion in new investment to aid Palestinians within the next 10 years.

“This is going to be the opportunity of the century if they have the courage to pursue it,” said Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law who also serves as the White House senior adviser.

Kushner’s economic proposals will be discussed at the US-led gathering in Bahrain on June 25-26. The Palestinian Authority is boycotting and the White House did not invite the Israeli government.

US-allied Persian Gulf Arab states, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, will take part along with officials from Egypt, Jordan and Morocco. Lebanon and Iraq will not attend.
